Mist drifting through the tea mountains of Ha Giang, Vietnam

From the misty mountains to your cup.

The Tea Lands

Bản đồ trà Việt Nam

Five mountains, one country — each a different climate, a different people, a different cup. This is where every tea we pour begins. Mỗi vùng một câu chuyện.

THE MAP · BẢN ĐỒ TRÀ

One of the world’s oldest tea lands.
One of its friendliest cups.

Five mountains, one country — each a different cup.

The tea plant was born in this corner of the world. Follow the map from the far-north plateau down to the southern highlands — the people, seasons and flavours of Vietnam, one region at a time.

The pink seal marks the mountain we’re pouring this month.

Hà Giang

The far-north plateau

Vietnam’s northernmost frontier — a sea of grey karst against the Chinese border, where H’Mông villages tend Shan trees that no one planted. Many gardens are reached on foot; the leaves are picked by hand and carried back down. It is the wildest tea we pour.

Cloud-forest ancients

Above the town of Nghĩa Lộ in Yên Bái stands a forest of Shan trees, some more than three hundred years old. The Mông climb into the canopy to pick leaves silvered with fine down — tuyết, snow. Cool, honeyed, and impossibly clean.

Thái Nguyên

The green-tea heartland

If Vietnam has a tea capital, it is Tân Cương in Thái Nguyên — rolling cultivated gardens two hours from Hà Nội. This is the tea most Vietnamese grew up drinking, poured at every welcome and every goodbye. Bright, grassy, faintly toasted.
